The Charleston Golfweek Amateur Tour held their tournament at Legend Oaks on Aug 13th and the course was a fair test as it proved that Bermuda rough at 2 ½ inches can be just as tough as 5 inch fescue! The course was in great shape despite all the recent rain we have endured. The greens rolled true and if you missed the fairway there was definitely a price to pay.
The champ flight saw Trevor Scott and Billy Hill battle it out with Billy taking the top honors with a very solid 78 to Trevor’s 80. The A flight saw Eric Tobias continue his impressive play by besting the field by four shots over Dan Wanner and Tony Capehart. George King played well as his two closest to the pins indicated his iron play was on. The B flight saw a return to the winner circle for Denny Miller. Denny proved that grinding away can sometimes pay dividends as his 86 topped point’s leader James Ravenel by a single shot, Denny also captured the closest to the pin for the B flight. The C flight was won by some unknown hacker who also just happens to publish a local golf paper. It was survival of the fittest for the C flight as Mr. Hacker just barely topped points leader David Mays by three shots, 100 to 103. The D flight saw Cowboy win his fourth event of the year as he closed the gap on points leader Mike Miller. Cowboy posted a very nice round of 88 soundly securing the victory over Wayne Carter who shot a 96 and won the closest to the pin for the C and D flights.
Our next event is going to be a combo event with the Myrtle Beach crew at one of the top courses in the country. True Blue is always rated in the top 100 courses you can play in various magazines. It should be a super tournament so sign up early. Tim
