The Charleston and Columbia Tours gathered at Orangeburg
Country Club on this past Tuesday for some great golf, good times and a well
deserved weekday break!
The Champ Flight was a battle all day between the top five/six
players in the flight, all within a few strokes of the lead. Elliott Johnson had a share of the lead
heading into the back nine with B.J. Hill with Mike Cobb, TA Fulmer, Phil
Pfeiffer and Akshay Kapadia all on their heels.
BJ who fired a 1 under on the front, did the same on the back nine to
hold off a strong field with Elliott coming in second place with a rock solid
even par 72. Mike Cobb Birdied the last
hole to take the final money spot. All
in all that was strong playing from the championship flight. I can’t wait to
see what happens at Paris Island
In the A flight, new comer Kevin Price soared out to a lead
on the front nine and then and then held off a strong charging Dan Wanner on
the back nine. Kevin fired a very nice
round of 74 while Dan Wanner posted a superb round of 75 with an even par back
nine. Dave Dodgen and Mike Griggs tied
for third with solid rounds of 76 with Dave taking the scorecard playoff.
The B flight proved to be quite the battle as well as the
top ten players were separated only by 5 strokes! Joseph Jones played a steady round, going out
in 39 while coming back in 40 to secure his first victory of the year! Tyler Martin did his best by firing a 38 on
the back nine to finish two strokes behind. We had 7 golfers tie with a round
of 83 with Bo Gordon taking the scorecard playoff over in order, Tim Parrish,
Biff Huff, Johnnie Cooper, Mike Smith, Dwight Williams and Jeffery Ard, whew, just
one stroke would have made the difference!
The C flight although not as tight certainly saw some
spectacular play as Cool Whip, Craig White fired a smooth round of 82 for a three-shot
victory over Mckenzie Barrineau who finished 5 shots up on William Beck. Just to show what kind of player Craig is, he
birdied both 17 and 18 to post a very strong finish.
The D flight had quite the battle as well….for second
place! Gary Parnell stole the show
yesterday firing a great round 84 to easily secure the victory with a 6-shot win
over Joseph King. Joseph finished one shot in front of Bill Northrop and the
difference was Joseph’s back nine 43 to Bill’s 44.
All in all it was a great day, especially for one Brendan
Callahan whose Birdie on hole 10 held up for the lone Super Skin $670.00!! The two man event was won by B.J. Hill and
Craig White, no surprise there as the two each won their flights. We look forward to seeing everyone at Paris Island
and Legend Oaks
