The Charleston Golfweek Amateur Tour made their way over to
Johns Island to take on the Links at Stono Ferry. The course was in great shape and as usual
the entire staff treated us all wonderful. The weather cooperated and there was
some very good golf played.
In the Champ Flight, Chris Asbell continued his winning ways
of recent. Chris fired a two under par 70 to capture the title by 8 shots over
Mike Cobb. Chris and Mike have battled
it out recently at other events and it is always a treat to see these two go at
it.
In the A flight perseverance was the name of the game for A
flight Champ Glenn Powell who fired an even par 36 on the back side to come
from a six-shot deficit to take the title.
Glenn posted a smooth 78 to finish one up on Jamie Tuberty and Randy
Tame who both posted very nice rounds of 79.
In the B flight it was Darren Navarro winning his first AGT
title by birding hole 17 to take a one-shot lead into the final challenging 18thhole. Darren played it well, tee shot in
the fairway second shot on the green two putt for the one-shot victory over Tim
Sumption (81) and Robert Lyle who posted a nice 82.
The C flight saw
Vince Ackerman fire a nice 82 and cruise to a 9 shot victory over Sam Marano
who posted a solid 91. This was Vince’s
first win this year and his lowest score ever in an AGT event.
The D flight saw a repeat winner as Jack King fired a smooth
90 for a four-shot victory over Craig Knowlton who made a nice par on 18 to
edge Mike Miller (95) out of the money.
