Battle of I26 Champions; Jones, Dixon, Amos, Cooper and Gibson
The Charleston and Columbia tours finally go together for
their annual Battle Of I26 at Orangeburg Country. Although it was postponed for a few months the
excitement and energy was definitely evident.
The course was in awesome shape and played a little long due to the rain
the course received on Friday evening.
There was some awesome golf played and there was some brotherly love as
the two tours came together and raised over 500 dollars for Cowboy who had totaled
his truck trying to avoid some deer that ran out in front of him.
In the Championship flight Hilton Heads Jammie Manning and
Parker Jones both fired super round of 2 over par on a course that played even
longer than the 7000 yards. The two took
to hole one for an on-the-course playoff and didn’t settle it till five holes
later with Parker securing the win with a par on the fifth playoff hole.
The A flight as usual had some stellar play as well. Lee Dixon posted a superb round of 4 over 76
for a 2-shot victory over Tony Capehart and Kevin Lyles. Tony edged Kevin in the scorecard playoff
(back nine score) 39-40. In the B flight Columbia’s Stuart Amos fired a career
best round of 77 for a two-shot victory over Joe Huotari who posted an early
round of 79 and Byron Johnson who continued his good play of late. It was Joe
taking second place money on the score card playoff, 41-42. In the C flight Jason Cooper also had a
career best with a round of 6 over 78 for a three-shot victory. Larry Penfield continued his strong play of
late with a very nice round of 81 and Jeff Orr rounded out the top three with a
solid 84. The D flight saw Brad Gibson
not only post a spectacular round of 87 but he also cashed in on a super skin
for 325.00. Wesly Nichols was hot on his
trail with an 88 while Aaron Chase rounded out the top three with an 89.
Our next to event will be at the same course. We have a small limited field for next Sat
and there are only 9 spots available at this time. The special Monday event on Aug 31 only has
