The low country tours (Charleston and Hilton Head) of the Golf Week Amateur Tour took to Stono Ferry last Saturday, Mar 1st. with a sold out field of 80 golfers. The weather tried not to cooperate and we finished up the scoring with many cell phone flashlights but all in all it was a great tournament at a great course.
The Championship Flight saw a 3-way tie for first place that had to be settled with extra holes. Jeff Emory, Pete Detemple and Bill Jenner followed each other around the course, shooting identical 39-36's. Jeff, Pete and Bill took to the first hole where Pete and Bill advanced after jeff lipped out his par putt. Bill Jenner secured his first GolfWeek Amateur title by birding the second hole.
The A flight saw Stephen Kauble shoot a very nice round of 78 to finish 2 shots ahead of Fred Dixon. Jared Bibbee took third place in a three way tie determined by a scorecard playoff.
The B flight had Mason Talley securing his second win of the young season by firing a super 79. Mason finished three shots ahead of Denny Miller who came in one ahead of Joe Turner who took third place in a scorecard playoff with John Saager.
The C flight saw our second on-course playoff as Todd Saylor and Wayne Carter both posted rounds of 88. Wayne edged Todd on the first hole while Sean Metzger rounded out the top three one shot back.
In the D flight, Paul McGee and John Wilson made our for our third on-course playoff as both posted very solid rounds of 90 with Paul also edging out John on the first playoff hole.
This event was Super and thanks for the patience and understanding as we had to deal with weather for the third straight tournament. Our next event is a couple weeks away at Coosaw Creek which I hear is in excellent condition. Please sign up early for this one guys.
