The Charleston Tour Kicked off their 2024 Season, the way
they always do; The Winter Freezer on the Isle of Palms, Harbor Course. This year as it does in most it hel true to
its name as a cold front came through the Low Country and dropped the temperatures
30-40 degrees! We wouldn’t want it any other way!
With the drop in temp, we lost a few players and then the
event went from tee times to a shotgun event.
The Championship flight seemed to be a two way battle between Mike Cobb
and Cory Deering. They seemed to match
scores all day as both posted 40 on the front nine, but Mike was able to secure
the win with a 36 on the tough back side to Cory’s 38.
The A flight had quite the battle as 4 players all finished
within 2 shots of the lead. Andy Balao
was the only one of the 4 to have one of his 9’s under 40 and that proved to be
the difference as He fired a strong round of 80 in these tough conditions; Justin
Lippert was hot on his heals with an 81 and Erict Tobias, and Jace Gause both
posted solid 82’s with Eric’s back nine of 40 to Jace’s 41 secured the
scorecard playoff for third place.
The B flight was a little more spread out as Greg Bagwell
opened the season with a very solid round of 82 to secure a 3 shot victory over
Jason Courtney who posted a nice round of 85.
Glenn Eagerton finished one shot behind Jason for third.
The C flight was also a good battle also. Just about the entire flight posted similar
scores on the back nine but James Ravenel was at least two-shots better than
anyone else on the front nine which secured him his first victory of the year. Julie Johnso posted a solid 92 to finish
three shots back
The D flight tho had the most drama of all the flights as Kent
Barker and Danny Alexander both finished one shot ahead of Justin Miller and
had to take to a playoff on the course. With the time being an issue it was
good it was settle on the first hole as Kent got up and down for a par to Danny’s
bogie to give him his first victory of the year.
Our next event is Rivertowne, sign up early for this one as
it is a limited player field.
