Legend Oaks Champs: Asbell, Kauble, Sumption, Metzger, Cowboy
The Charleston Golf Week tour headed to the south west portion of the low country to Legend Oaks Plantation in Summerville. Legend Oaks proved to be quite busy with a 5K in the morning during check-in and a wedding as we were departing. The golf course which had some difficulties a couple years ago with their greens was in spectacular shape. The Champ flight saw Chris Asbell and Jeff Emory battle it out throughout the day. Even though they were not in the same group, they were able to see how each other was doing via the live scoring which updates after every hole! It was the 18th that proved to be the difference as Chris carded a birdie to Jeff’s bogey to secure the victory. The A flight saw future Champ Flight Stephen Kauble post his second straight victory with a great round of 76 to post a three shot victory over Fred Dixon and Andy Balao who both shot 79. Andy took home second with a scorecard playoff over Fred by virtue of his back nine score of 41 to Fred’s 42. The B flight saw former Legend Oaks member, Tim Sumption use his local knowledge to help him secure his first victory of the year. Matt Root who birdied holes nine and ten had jumped into the lead and appeared headed for victory until a costly drive resulted in a double on 18 to finish one shot behind Sumption. John Saager, Randy Tame and Jace Gause all tied for third with an 84. John took the scorecard playoff for third place money! The C flight was a bitter sweet victory for Sean Metzger as he got to play with his Buddy, Kevin Goddard for what may be the last time on the Charleston Tour. Kevin is relocating to Tampa for a job promotion. We will miss him but wish him well in his new endeavors. Sean held off strong charging David Carlson who finished one shot behind Sean, 90 to 91. The D flight saw Sean Gilpen return to the winners circle after a on course playoff with Julie Johnson who tied for the lead in only her second event. Over all it was a great day on a great course. Our next event is a Monday combination event at Orangeburg country club on May 8th.
