The Charleston Golfweek Amateur tour ventured out to the Stono River to play the links at Stono Ferry. The weather cooperated some as the rain finished early in the morning but the cool temperatures lingered. The field played great tournament as all groups finished in under 4 hours and thirty minutes! Way to go Charleston.
The highlight of the Day belonged to eventual C flight Champion, Jason Courtney. Jason made his first ever Hole-in-one on the par three 11th hole. Congratulations to Jason as he not only took home a Super Skin, and closest to the hole, Jason is the first winner of our newly formed hole-in-one pot. Unfortunately for Jason this was only the second event but he was still happy to depart with the extra 89 dollars!!
The Champ flight had a first time winner as Brian Kirhoffer fired a round of 77 in the cool tempatures to edge out John Ashmore by two shots. The A flight saw Mark Ducker post a 77 for a four shot victory over Dennis Slezak, Kevin Goddard, and Dan Wanner who all fired rounds of 81. Dennis took second on the scorecard playoff while Dan finished in third after the show of cards. The B flight saw Randy Tame garner his first victory of the year by using steady play to post an 82 for a two shot victory over James Ravenel. Coming in third was Jerry Mast and newcomer Dalton Miller with Jerry taking third place money after a scorecard playoff. Of course we know who won the C flight, Ace Courtney! Coming in second was Dustin Chamblee from Columbia who took the honors over Ed Cassady from Hilton Head. The D flight saw a second winner in a row as Cowboy posted a solid round of 93 to edge Aaron Chase by four shots. The event was great as we had a few visitors from different tours, always a great way to meet new golfing buds! Our next event will be the “Masters at Legend Oaks” Their greens are in superb shape after their renovation. As usual sign up online or just shoot me an email.
