Harbor Course Winners, Cobb, Balao, Gause, Brady and Chase
The Charleston Golf Week Amateur Tour Kicked off their local
campaign this past Saturday at Wild Dunes Resort on the Harbor course. Although the weatherman was a little off, it
was still a good day for golf as we saw a blend of the old and the new take home
victories.
In the Champ Flight, new comer Mike Cobb fired a very nice
round of 75 to take top honors holding off Chris Asbel who had a tough finish
to fall five shots back. In the A flight
Andy Balao who just recently underwent back surgery came out smoking by
throwing up a 77 for a four-shot victory over Eric Tobias who posted an 81
early and then watched the field come back to him. Steve Walter and Glenn Powell both posted an
82 for third with Steve winning the score card playoff. The B flight was a tight battle throughout
the day as Beth Hunt, John Schneidermuller and Jace Gause all went back and
forth with the lead but as usual the back nine was the determining factor as
Jace grabbed the victory with a spectacular back nine 38. The C flight saw tour veteran but Charleston
New Comer Tom Brady play a solid round all day to edge Jason Courtney by one
shot, 88-89 for his first Charleston Tour Victory. Aaron Chase continued his strong play of late
after winning the Ice Breaker in Hilton Head, he cruised to a five shot victory
in the D flight with a very nice round of 91 to Julie Johnson’s 96.
