Seabrook Soiree
With storms raging around Charleston and a 90% chance of
rain, the Charleston Golfweek Tour headed down to beautiful Seabook Island to
take on their Crooked Oaks Golf Course.
As it turned out, the weather was actually quite pleasant and the golf
was good.
In the Championship Flight Evan hunt broke through for his
first victory of the year by torching the course with a very nice round of 75. Stephen Kauble finished a few shots back for
second place.
The A flight saw its leaders go back and forth till the last
couple of holes when Steve Walters played very solid golf with a 4 over 76 to
take home A flight honors. There were 7
golfers within five shots of the lead and the closest were Fred Dixon who fired
a 77 to secure second place honors while Glenn Powell finished one shot in back
of Fred.
The B flight needed extra holes to settle things for their
flight. Paul McGee from Hilton Head and
Jace Gause both posted solid rounds of 80.
They took to an on-the-course playoff and played 18 with both securing
par and then on the first playoff hole where Jace’s five-footer for par secured
the victory. Michael Menna was able to
secure the third-place money on a score card playoff as he, Chris Gamblin,
Rolland Hoffman, Jerry Mast and James Ravenel all posted rounds of 85.
The C flight was hotly contested all day as well as the lead
changed hands back and forth between the top 5 golfers. Casey Sullivan played some steady golf down
the stretch to secure the victory with a nice round of 85 to finish 2 shots
ahead of Michael Ridgway. David Carlson
who had the lead for a good part of the tournament finished in third one shot
behind Michael.
The D flight saw the first two time winner of the year as
Cowboy None played some of his best golf of the year and posted a solid round
of 90 for a four shot victory over new comer to the Charleston tour, Mike Flanigan. Rounding out the top three was Julie Johns
who posted a nice round of 95 in her first event.
