The Charleston Golf Week amateur tour ventured down Main
road and turned right into beautiful Seabrook Island to tackle their Ocean
Winds Golf Course which was in spectacular condition. Chris Asbell continued his hot playing this
year carding six birdies and shooting three under par for an awesome round of
69. Chris easily outpace John Ashmore
who finished in second. This was the
round of the year on the Charleston Tour.
The A flight saw our first sudden death playoff of the day. Fred Dixon
and Patrick Gamblin played in the group together and matched scores with
impressive rounds of 79. This is the
second straight tournament that Patrick was in a sudden death playoff as he won
Rivertowne in a three-way playoff. This
time around it was Fred Dixon who made his first birdie of the day on the first
playoff hole. Great playing guys. The B flight saw the Hilton Head tour take
their first of two flight victories as Boyd Laughlin shot a steady round of 81
to beat Jace Gause and James Ravenel by two shots each. On a show of the cards it was Jace who
prevailed over the good doctor. The C
flight saw our second Hilton Head tour player walk away with a victory as
Matthew Nemes posted an 88 for a five shot victory over another Hilton Head
player, Ed Cassady. The D flight had our
second sudden death playoff as Vince Ackerman and Cowboy both played solid
rounds with scores of 95. Cowboy edged
Vince in the playoff to take his second victory of the year. Our next event is our local tour finals, a
two event at Lake Marion and Santee Cooper Country Club on Sep 24thand 25th. We have a lot
planned for the weekend so please sign up early for this one.
