The Charleston Golfweek Amateur tour headed north to Monks Corner for their last major of the season at Berkeley Country Club. The course was in great shape and the greens were some of the best we have played on all year. The weather cooperated and the scores indicated everything was right as we ready ourselves for the fall tour championship.
The Championship flight saw some spectacular play as Jeff Emory ran away with title by firing a 2 under par round of 70. This locked up Jeff as the Championship Flight Champion of the year while Stephen Kauble wrapped up second place. The A flight saw Jace Gause continue his fine play of late as he shot a very nice round of 76 to post a two shot victory over Jared Bibbee. Mark Ducker and Biff Huff finished in a tie for third with rounds of 80 and Mark edged Biff on a scorecard playoff.
The B flight had some very nice play as three members posted rounds in the 70's. Long Hitting Mason Talley took advantage of the longer course and fired a 78 for a one shot victory over both Denny Miller and Tim Sumption who took second on a score card playoff. The C flight saw Anthony Fabian return to the tour with a very solid round of 82 to edge Wayne Carter by a single stroke. The D flight saw both Steve Hartoin and John Wilson post 94's so it was off to the course to settle it the old fashioned way. Steve edged John for the victory on the first extra hole. Our next event will be our last local event of the year as we head up the highway to take on Santee National June 28th.
