The Charleston Division of the Egolf Amateur Tour held its second event of the season at the famed Wild Dunes (Harbor Course) on Saturday February 6. The golf course was clearly the winner today with the cold and soggy conditions but there were still some good scores. The Wild Dunes complex located at the Isle of Palms is one of the most famous courses in Charleston. The staff was friendly and it has been one of the tour stops since the beginning of the Charleston tour.
Brooks Varn (Santee, SC) fired an 87 to claim the first place in the Championship Flight. In the “A†Flight, Jace Gause (Goose Creek, SC) made it two wins in a row with a steady 82. Jace had four birdies to help him to the win. Tom Pace (Mt. Pleasant, SC) finished in second place with an 86. In third place Brandon Barnes (Santee, SC) used an eagle on hole # 10 to fire an 88.
George King (Mt. Pleasant, SC) and Casey Collier (Mt. Pleasant, SC) both fired 90 and had to go back on the course for a playoff. George grabbed his first victory of the year by beating Casey in the playoff. Finishing in third place was Tony Capehart (Charleston, SC) with a 92.
“C†flight saw the return of a tour veteran as Tommy Bryant (Mt. Pleasant, SC) fired an 86 to claim the first place trophy. Finishing second was Max Velazquez (Mt. Pleasant, SC) with an 88. Richard Cairns (Summerville, SC) continued his good play and finished third place with a 94.
Michael Miller (Summerville, SC) showed how a tour veteran is supposed to play and fired a 94 to claim the “D†flight first place trophy. Calvin Griffin (Savannah, GA) finished in second place with a 97. Finishing in third place was Charleston Golf News CEO Bob Hagan. Bob fired a 99.
The next tournament on the Charleston Egolf Amateur Tour will be the first Major of the year. It is a combo event with the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour at Savannah Harbor. Savannah Harbor is famous for hosting the Senior Tour’s Legends of Golf Tournament each year. Hope to see everyone there.
