The Charleston and Columbia got together for their annual
rite of Spring and met at the half way point at Orangeburg Country Club. The weather was a bit on the chilly side and
the wind was up but most everyone agreed they would rather be there.
The Championship flight saw Mike Cobb continue his strong
play by firing a 2 under par 70 for his second victory of the year with an under-par
score. Mike got it started on the very first hole with a birdie and never
looked back. TA Fulmer did his best to
put the pressure on him with a very solid round with the exception of a three
hole stretch on holes 8-9-10 but he did finish with a very nice round of 76 to
secure second place.
The A flight came down to the last hole as Tony Capehart had
a one stroke lead on Mike Griggs standing on hole 18 after Mike missed a short
birdie putt on hole 17. Mike soon made
up for it with a rare birdie on hole 18 while Tony faltered for a bogie
securing the one-shot victory for Mike Griggs.
Scott Edwards rounded out the top three with a smooth round of 80.
The B flight saw Daniel Montgomery return to the winner’s
circle by firing a very nice round of 79 to hold off Tim Sumption who turned in
a card of 80 almost two hours earlier than Daniel. There was a four-way tie for third with four golfers;
Sickles, Saager, Huge and Gordon all posting nice rounds of 81. In the scorecard playoffs, Michael Sickles secured third with a back nine score of
41. Gordon and Saager both finished in
the money.
The C flight had a nice field and witnessed Tim Parrish
firing his best round of the year with a very tidy 85 to fight off Ray Clark
who seems to love Orangeburg, Ray had a nice round of 87 to secure second
place. Rounding out the top three was
Joseph Deese who fired a back nine score or 39 to climb up the leaderboard.
The D flight saw John Greider Sr take control early and then
play steady golf for a very nice round of 90 to secure a three-shot victory
over Michael Miller who has been in the hunt these last few tournaments. Rounding out the top three was Bob Hill. Congratulations to all the winners yesterday
and we look forward to getting back on Monday May 2nd. Sign up early as this will be an awesome
event.
