The Charleston and Columbia Tour’s held their annual Monday
madness event at Orangeburg Country Club on May 3rd. The course was in spectacular condition and
the weather threatened a little rain but held off for what turned out to be a
great day. We had 104 players signed up
with a 102 competing.
In the Championship Flight, Phil Pfeiffer from Myrtle Beach
came down because he said he heard good things about the course. It was a good
thing he did as he fired a very nice round on one over par to slip by Jonathan
Mulane and Andrew Locklier of Charleston who both posted solid rounds of 74 to
tie for second place. It was Jonathan
taking the scorecard playoff
In THE A flight. 4 shots separated the top 8 players, what a
battle! Columbia’s Westfield Brown fired
a 2 over par 74 to hold off Dan Wanner and Justin McBride who both finished one
shot back with super rounds of 75 themselves.
It was Justin taking the scorecard playoff over Dan
The B flight had John Saager and Tim Sumption were battling
it out all day While Michael sickles who went off later said don’t forget about
me. In the end it was Tim Sumption
getting the one shot victory over John and two over Michael.
The C flight saw some great golf being played as Tony james
from Augusta had his round of the year with a smooth 78 to take a two-shot victory
over Charleston’s Lynn Rhode and Tyler martin who both fired their seasons best
rounds of 80. It was Tyler taking the
scorecard playoff
The D flight had the most drama as there was a three way
playoff for first place between Murray Mixon, Kelvin Briggs and James Gainey. The first hole saw Murray bow out and on to
hole #2 for James and Kelvin. Kelvin
made a nice par save but James one-up’d him by making Birdie to seal the
victory.
Please sign up early for these upcoming events as they are
selling out.
