Kiawah Klassic @ Oak Point
The Charleston Tour ventured down close to the site of the
2021 PGA Championship to Kiawah’s Oak Point.
The course was in fantastic shape the weather was warm and very
windy!
The Champ Flight had a small field due to the City Four Ball
but Cleveland’s Nathan Strack didn’t mind as he Fired an 82 from the tips in
the tough conditions to take home first place honors.
The A flight had some spectacular play as the top 6 were separated
by only three shots. The top spot went
back and forth all day as Dan Wanner started out hot birding the first two
holes and then being caught by Tony Capehart and Biff Huff. A tough triple on the tricky 14thmade it a two man race between Tony and Biff Huff as the two tied with four
over 76’s. Biff did the same as last
tournament and rolled in a nice birdie on the first play=off hole to secure his
second victory in as many events.
The B flight was a battle all day between the Mike Menna and
Tim Sumption…these two also battled it out at The Pawley’s Invitational. Mike Ran into a little trouble on 17 and 18 to
finish 3 shots back in second place.
Rounding out the top three was last years winner, Billy Hill who poste a
solid 84
The C flight also had a nice battle as Tom Brady and Upstate’s
Jimmy Sulivan were neck and neck all day.
Tom made the turn at 39 and a 2 shot lead over Chris Huge and Jimmy that
proved critical as Jimmy fired a back nine 41 to almost catch Tom on hole
18. Jimmy finished at 82 to Tom’s 81,
certainly very nice rounds in the blustery conditions.
The D flight was just about the only flight that was hotly
contested. Upstate Tour’s Jimmy Sullivan
ran away with a spectacular round of 82 of an 11 shot victory. The real battle was for second place and
Chris Hill edged out David Deese and steady Bill Northrop by 1 and 2 shots
repspectively.
