The Charleston tour ventured down Savannah highway to take
on Stono Ferry for their second local event on there schedule. The wind was up, making scoring a bit
difficult but as usual, the course was in great shape.
The championship flight saw John Ashmore post his first
victory of the season as he fired a 76 for a four-shot victory. The A flight was closely contested all day but,
in the end, Stephan Jones secured his first victory. Step carded a very nice round of 79 for a two-shot
victory over Biff Huff (81) who finished one shot in front of Glenn Powell to
round out the top three. The B flight
saw Columbia’s Delano Jones post a solid round of 81 for a one-shot
victory. The B flight was also closely
contested as Roland Hoffman and Jace Gause both finishing one shot back with 82’s. Rolland secured the second-place prize money after
the scorecard playoff. Rolland had shot
40 on the back nine to Jace’s 42. The C
flight was won by Ozzy Osborne! Ozzy rocked an 83 for a two-shot victory over
Michael Ridgway, (85). Rounding out the top three was Columbia’s Cleve Johnson
who posted a very nice round of 86. The
D flight saw another Columbia golfer take the top honors as Gene Beamus
outdistanced the field with a very nice 89 for a comfortable victory over the
flight. Mike Flanigan, also from
Columbia finished in second place.
Overall it was a great day, a little tough for scoring but as always the
staff there at Stono is top notch and it is always a pleasure and a treat to
play there.
