Championship Flight :Charleston Tour’s Chris Asbell (72-74-146) took control early on day one and made some clutch birdies down the stretch to claim an impressive 3 shot victory over one of the strongest fields the Myrtle Beach Tour has ever seen. Central Carolina Tour’s Wil Morgan (74-75-149) made a late charge with 3 birdies in his last 7 holes but came up short. Myrtle Beach Tour’s Phil Pfeiffer (74-79-152) was unable to repeat as champion but played solid to round out the top 3.
A Flight: Charleston Tour’s Fred Dixon (78-76-154)is one of the most consistent A flighters in the Southeast. Dixon again played strong carding 2 birdies and an eagle in his final round. Eastern Tour’s Joseph Martin (79-78-155) made a run late but came up just short of Dixon. Michael Bradshaw (80-75-155) from the Eastern Tour claimed third on the weekend.
B Flight: Steve Stewart (82-77-159) a new member of the Myrtle Beach Tour started off his season right by claiming a strong 2-Day victory coming from behind to win by 3 shots. Charleston Tour’s Billy Gamblin(77-85-162) was the day one leader but was unable to hold off Stewart’s charge. Myrtle Beach’s Beth Hunt (84-81-165) made up some ground with a solid 81 to sneak into the top 3.
C Flight: Jason Courtney (83-86-169) from the Charleston Tour made putts when he needed to hold off a late run by Myrtle Beach’s Sai Fon (83-87-170) to claim victory. Sai Fon finished runner up in his Golfweek Amateur Tour debut and is eager to tee it up again with the Tour. Eastern Tour’s TJ Eaves (85-87-172) had a couple of runs but wasn’t able to claim victory as he rounded out the top 3
D Flight: Charlotte Tour’s William Ray (90-80-170) put his foot on the pedal from the start with a solid first round that included an eagle and some long par saving putts. Ray didn’t miss a beat on Sunday by cardind an 80 with 3 birdies in his final round to claim top honors. Aaron Chase (93-95-188) from the Charleston Tour played consistent but was unable to chase down Ray. John Davis (99-92-191) from the Eastern Tour rounded out the top 3.
