The Charleston Golf Week Tour took a trip up north to Monks Corner to play Berkeley Country Club and do some tour bonding after the round with lunch. The weather was perfect and the course which has struggled lately is starting to fill in. The scores indicated that it was very playable.
In the A flight our past National Champion, Dan Wanner, recorded his first victory this year with a stellar round of 76 that included a couple of birdies. Coming in second in the A flight was past Berkeley Club Champion Mark Ducker who fired a 77 at his old home course to edge out Dennis Slezak and Stephan Kauble who both carded nice rounds of 78. After a score card playoff, where both players shot 38 on the back, Stephan prevailed with a 26 to Dennis’ 28 on the last six holes. Coming in first in the B flight was Hilton Head’s Andres Lopez who made sure his drive up north was for a reason. Andres blistered the course with a 77 that included three birdies! There were three players tied with rounds of 80 to determine second through fourth. Randy Tame took second with a 39 on the back nine, Tim Sumption took third with a 40 on the back while Jerry Mast was edged out of the money with a 42 on the back. The C flight saw Shanie Cooper claim her second title in a row by firing a spectacular round of 78 to edge out Mitch, “I Can’t win on this tour” Rose who fired a Amateur tour best of 79. Those are great rounds Shanie and Mitch! In the D flight, tour veteran Mike Miller broke the ice this year by shooting a solid round of 91 to outdistance the field and claim his first victory of the year! Congratulations to all the winners, the closest to the pin winners, Cowboy, Denny Miller, Dennis Slezak and Mitch Rose. It was a great day as 71% of the field won some money and 100% enjoyed the lunch and good times after the round. Our next event is at Crooked Oaks on Seabrook Island, one of the best tracks we play all year so sign up early. Tim
