The Charleston Golf Week Amateur
Tour enjoyed some nice weather but tuff conditions as they attacked the Links at
Stono Ferry for their first local major of the year.
Both the Championship
flight and A flight tee'd it up from the tips on a windy soft day and although
the scores indicated the tougher conditions there was still some spectacular
play. The Championship flight witnessed Jeff Emory do everything in his power to
tame the links with five birdies in route to a 2 over par round to claim the
title over Davis Mulany.
The A flight had Stephen Kauble post a very solid round
of 77 that included two birdies. Stephen finished three shots up on Andy Wood
and Patrick Gamblin, with Patrick coming in second on a scorecard playoff.
The
B flight stretched out to almost 6500 yards and the scores were an indicator
that drier conditions were needed!! Tony Walters shot an 87 to secure a one shot
victory over Will Gwaltney and Tim Sumption who prevailed for second on a score
card playoff.
The C flight had a playoff between Ricky Winter and new comer
Bill Chick. Bill won the playoff on the second hole to gather a victory in his
inaugural event, a rare feat! Rounding out the top three in the C flight was
Mitch Rose, also a new comer to the tour.
The D flight had better start to step
up their game as we witnessed Aaron Chase win for the second time in three
events by firing a 97 to best Sean Gilpen by three shots.
Our next event is up
in Santee on March 21. If you are interested in trying the tour please contact
