A total of 50
players took to Crosswinds Golf Course in Savannah, Georgia this past weekend
to compete in the most recent tournament for the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour
tournament season. The weather was great and the course was in good shape for
the players to battle it out.
The Championship flight saw four players take to the
course in a quest to capture the first place trophy. In the end it was tour
veteran Matt Eisenmenger firing a very impressive 74 to secure a 5-stroke win
over Hayden Burrows. Coming in third was newcomer to the tour Hunter Collins
(80) followed by Alex Kiproff (81).
The 10 players in the A flight we were only
separated by eight strokes. It came down to the last group. With three players
in the clubhouse tied at 81, all eyes were on Michel Dion who was playing 18
needing a par to secure the win by one stroke. Michel earned that par and the
one-stroke victory. Congratulations Michel.
The B flight was the biggest flight of the day with
17 players. John Robinson played an amazing front nine and made the turn in 37
strokes. Robinson continued his play on the back and ended the day with a solid
80 to claim his first win of the season. Aaron Tanner finishes second yet again
followed by a top 3 machine in David Brown.
The top three players in the 12 player C flight were
only separated by 2 strokes. Again, all eyes were on Ron Hunter as he played
the 18th hole. Jimmy Bryson was the clubhouse leader with an 86 on
the board. Ron needed to par 18 to secure the one-stroke victory. Just like
Michel Dion in the A flight, Ron did just that. Congratulations on your second
victory Ron.
The D flight saw 7 players take to the course today.
The top three players battled it out all round long. In the end Doug Pearson
pulled away on the last few holes to secure the 3-stroke victory over the
field. Felipe Aguilar finishes second, followed by Lonnie Harley. This is
Doug’s second win of the season.
With all the play and close battles it was a great
tournament. The shot of the day however came from John Wagner in the B flight.
John stepped up to the par 3 8th hole and hit the perfect shot, the
shot we all want. That’s right, John Wagner aced the hole. Measuring at 172
yards from the blue tees, John flushed his 5-iron and hit a hole-in-one. With
that hole-in-one, John not only won the admiration of the group but he also
walked away with a $1,000 prize! Great shot indeed! Congratulations John!
With that hole-in-one, the total payout for today’s
tournament was $2,865! For the season (3 tournaments) the payout total is now
at an amazing $6,580!
Our next event is April 18th at Jekyll
Island. This is a combo event with the Jacksonville tour and we will be playing
the Oleander Course. I hope to see a huge turnout of HHI-Sav Tour members
bringing home a lot of trophies and money!
