The Hilton Head-Savannah Division of the Egolf Amateur Tour kicked off the 2010 Tour Season on January 2 at the famed Palmetto Dunes Resort (Jones Course). The Robert Trent Jones course is the signature course at Palmetto Dunes Resort with the famed ocean hole on hole #11. The golf course was in fantastic shape with greens running really quick, which proved to be tricky for all the players. The staff at the host course was very friendly and helped to make sure the first tournament of the year went smoothly. While the temperature was slightly on the cold side, the players bundled up and there were some very good scores. Championship Flight The Championship Flight was the start of some early season drama. Jamie Manning of Hilton Head, SC used a solid steady round to post a winning score of 79. Following close at 84 was Daniel Soltau of Hilton Head, SC and Chris Collins of Savannah, GA at 86. “A” Flight The “A” flight saw a shootout with Terry Lennox from Ricon, GA firing a 76 for the win. Howard Tomlinson of Guyton, GA shot a 77 to finish second. Mark Harrison of Savannah, GA shot a 78 to take home third place. “B” Flight The “B” Flight was taken hostage by visitors from the Charleston Tour. Tim Sumption of Summerville, SC fired a smooth 80 to claim the first place honors. Mickey Rogers from Mt. Pleasant, SC came in a close second with an 81. There was a two way tie for third place with Tony Capehart from Charleston, SC and Craig Ehde from Beaufort, SC both firing 84’s. “C” Flight Jim Hestikind of Columbia, SC fired a 94 to secure the “C” Flight first place. Matthew Crates of Charlotte, NC and Seth Stephens of Bluffton, SC both fired 98’s to claim second and third place. “D” Flight Dave Essler of Bluffton, SC claimed the “D” Flight first place with a hard fought 101. Glen Cunningham of Hilton Head, SC secured second place with a 105 and George Story from Richmond Hill, GA finished third with a 111.
