Island West in Bluffton was the host course for the 19th tournament of the year for the Golfweek Amateur Tour Hilton Head-Savannah Tour. The day was picture perfect for the 22 golfers that signed up to play. The course was in perfect shape and the pace of play was great all day long.
With 4 players in the Championship flight, it was bound to be a great battle from 6800 yards. In the end it was David Politi (78) coming in one stroke better than Greg Luther (79) and Ryan Roberts (79) and two strokes better than Alex Kiproff (80). It was a tight battle all round long but David was able to stay steady and walk away with the win. Congratulations David!
The biggest flight of the day was the A flight with 10 player. The A flight also played from 6800 yards today, making it a tough course for the A flight. However, Howard Tomlinson took to the course and fired a very impressive 81 on the day to take home a 3 shot victory over Russ Gamblin (84). Rounding out the top three was Roger DeMarco (84). Great playing today Howard.
The B flight saw 7 players all take to the course. With these 7 golfers there is A LOT of competitive spirit in the group. And that was made evident with the top 5 players all separated by just 2 strokes. Taking home the top spot was James Ravenel with an 82 on the day. Following James was Denny Miller with an 83. Rounding out the top three was a 3-way tie between Keith Weaver, Dennis Henderson and Doug Hudock all with 84’s. Nice job B flight.
The D flight had one solo player today and that was Dennis Harris from the Charleston Tour. Even though Dennis was the only player today, he had a great time playing the course and playing with his friends.
Thanks to everyone that came out to play this week. We have ONE tournament left this year. That’s right, we are at the end of the season. I look forward to seeing everyone at Robbers Row on Oct. 6th.
