Jim Manning and Mike Hayes Celebrate Mike's Victory!
The Hilton Head/Savannah division of THE EGolf AMATEUR TOUR held their third event of the 2008 season on Saturday, January 26 at the Oyster Reef Golf Club. Located on Hilton Head Island and a member of the Heritage Group, a leading owner and operator of golf facilities nation wide, Oyster Reef was named the 2006 Low Country Golf Course of the Year by the Low Country Golf Course Owners Association. Golf Digest named Oyster Reef Resort in the top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts in 2006. The Rees Jones designed course was in excellent condition, but the fairways were a little wet, and the greens, although a little slow were putting true. The weather was cold, but it did not rain as was predicted. Everyone had a great time and the course staff were fantastic event hosts.
Ian Hall of Charlotte, NC won Championship Flight with a 75 over Jamie Manning of Hilton Head. Gerry Pascale, also of Hilton Head, who shot 79 finished in third. Pete Snow of Savannah, GA took the Senior Championship Flight honors with a 77, beating Howard Tomlinson, also of Savannah by two. David Eichenberger finished in third.
“A†Flight winner, Pete Snow of Savannah, GA shot a 77 to beat out Lenin Lezcano of Hilton Head by two strokes with Mark Harrison of Savannah, GA in third. Craig Case of Bluffton shot an 83 to capture the “A†Flight Senior Tour honors with Hugh Edwards of Hilton Head in second.
Mike Hayes of Savannah, GA continued his great play to take the “B†Flight win. Jim Manning of Hilton Head was right behind with a strong 82. Eric Lucas of Savannah, GA shot an 84 for third place. John Barr of Port Wentworth, GA shot a 93 to take the “B†Flight Senior win.
Mark Morris of Bluffton won “C†Flight with an 87 over Mike Tucker of Hilton Head. Todd Saylor of Savannah, GA came home in third with a 93. Mike Tucker’s 92 was good enough to win the “C†Flight Senior Tour honors over David Larson of Hilton Head.
David Fuentes of Garden City, GA scored 91 to take honors in “D†Flight over William Tad Smith of Bluffton. Andrew Dart of Hilton Head shot 98 to finish in third. Glen Cunningham captured the “D†Flight Senior crown over Olin Williams; both players from Hilton Head shot 96. Olin is one of two in play-offs already this year. Gladys Butler of Savannah finished in third.
The next tour stop in the Low Country is in Charleston at Wild Dunes Resort. The Saturday February 2 event will be the Opening event of the 2008 Charleston Tour. The next Hilton Head event will be February 9 at Palmetto Hall Resort Arthur Hill’s course. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, join the tour, and enjoy playing competitive tournament golf.
