What a Day of Golf.
Hampton Hall Golf Club was the host course for the most recent tournament for the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour. The day could not have been any better to start off for golf as the temperature was steadily in the mid 80’s with a slight breeze. However, with the raining in the forecast, the 21 golfers needed to play fast to avoid getting wet. The course was in perfect condition with the greens running smooth and true.
The Championship Flight consisted of two very competitive and steady golfers. Robert Wyrick and Greg Luther took to the course in a quest to take home the top spot. The two battled all round long and stood toe to toe with each other from start to finish. In the end it was Robert Wyrick taking home the top spot by firing a 79 on the day, besting Greg by 6 strokes.
The A flight saw four golfers take to the course. Mike Peters fired a blistering round on the day to shoot 80 and claim a 6 stroke win. Coming in second was Jeff Jordan with an 86 followed by newcomer Dan Conway who shot an 89 and Tommy Lyons (96).
The B flight saw 8 players take to the course in order to compete for the title. With only 2 players keeping it under 85, it was a very interesting scoreboard for this flight. When all the scorecards where in, it was Roger Clark standing on top with an 81. Coming in second was Thomas Burden (83). Rounding out the top three was Joe McDonie (88).
The C flight was where all the fireworks were for today. With 2 players in the flight, it was shaping up to be a very heated and intense battle. It couldn’t have been much more interesting for Shawn Lessig. Lessig chipped in for eagle on the par 5 9th hole (his last hole of the day) to card a 78. Dave Helm finishes second with a 94.
The D flight saw 5 players today. Corey Skinner set the early lead with a 95 on the day. Waiting on the last group to come in, Corey was laughing and smiling as he was pleased with his round. Once the last group came in Corey was tied by John Wilson. Off to number one they went for a playoff. It took two holes to declare a winner and that winner was Corey Skinner. Rounding out the top three was Gail Kolbe (99).
Thank you to all the golfers that showed up to play today. We look forward to seeing everyone at Savannah Harbor in two weeks!
