Perfect Day, Beautiful Course, Low Scores.
Deer Creek Golf Course at The Landings Golf Club on Skidaway Island was the host course for the most recent tournament for the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour members. The weather for the day was absolutely perfect. Temperature was around 85* with a lot of sun for the entire day. The course was in absolutely perfect shape. With some of the fastest greens the tour has played all year, the course was ready to battle. However, so were the players. On this occasion the players won.
The Championship flight saw two tough competitors today. Jacob Hitt and Brooks Lanigan were ready to do battle for 18 beautiful holes. Playing 7100 yards on a very difficult course made for some interesting shots. In the end Jacob was able to fire a very impressive 79 to win the Champ flight by 5 strokes over Brooks who fired an 84 on the day.
The A flight saw nine players take to the course today. The A flight was also the place where the round of the day was seen. Mark Harrison played some great golf today and fired an even par round of 72 to take home the win. Mark had 4 birdies on the day to help him secure that even par round. Nice round Mark. Coming in second was Terry Lennox with a solid 78 on the day. Rounding out the top three was Dow Bonds with an 80 on the card.
The B flight had he biggest group of the day with 15 players. Another impressive round was seen today, this time in the B flight. Scott Ammons fired a very impressive 76 (with a 2-stroke penalty) to claim his first victory of the season. The win also moves Scott into first place in the season long points race. Two other players fired sub-80 rounds to round out the top three. JC Smith shot a 78 to claim second while Brian Nicholson puts up a 79 for third.
Ten players in the C flight were ready to play and win the points. Armando Oropeza fired the winning round of the C flight with a solid 82 on the day. With the win Armando increases his C flight points lead. Coming in second was John Donat with a solid 85. Rounding out the top three was Noel Coolican with an 86.
In the D flight, three players were able to keep their scores in double digits. Tom Arledge had the low round of the day for the D flight with a 95. This is Tom's first win of the season. Coming in second was Lonnie Harley with a 98. Rounding out the top three was Charlie Sapernakis with a 99 on the day.
