On what started out as a perfect day for golf, then turned windy, low scores dominated the results sheet for the winners today. Sapelo Hammock in Shellman Bluff, GA was the host course for the most recent tournament for the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour. The weather started off absolutely perfect and the 36 golfers that made the trip to Sapelo Hammock were very thankful. Late round gusts of wind made for an interesting back nine, but the wind did not affect the winners today.
The A flight saw 7 players competing today for that top spot, the 900 points and the first major trophy of the year. With only two players breaking into the 70’s, it was a close battle for first place. Terry Lennox and Jeff Jordan battled all round long. In the end it was Terry (76) holding off Jeff (77) and claiming the title by one stroke. Coming in third was Mark Harrison (81).
The biggest flight of the day was the B flight with 16 players battling it out. Only one player broke the 80 mark and that was Ricky Futch. Ricky used great putting all day long to card a 78 on the day and claim his first win of the season. Ricky only putted 25 times on the day and 1-putted the last 7 greens to put together a great round of golf. Coming in second was Scott Ammons with an 83. Keith Weaver and Brain Nicholson came in with 84’s on the card. Weaver claimed 3rd place in a scorecard playoff.
The C flight saw another great round by its winner today. Armando Oropeza put together a solid round of 82 to claim the top spot in the C flight. With 8 players in the flight, the 82 by Armando was pretty impressive. Coming in second was Noel Coolican with an 86. Rounding out the top three was John Donat (91) on the day.
The D flight had a nice solid group of 5 players today. Keeping with the good scores by the winner theme, Jimmy Bryson fires a 93 to claim the top spot. This is Jimmy’s first win of the season! Coming in second was tour veteran George Story (99). Lonnie Harley comes in third.
We want to thank everyone for making the trip to Sapelo Hammock. Our next tournament is on May 11th at Palmetto Hall Arthur Hills course.
