The First Annual Battle of the Tours Cup between the DC
Metro and DownEast Tours was a huge success! The golf was great, camaraderie
was wonderful and all had fun. Congratulations to the DownEast Tour for winning
the two-day event with an overall score of 52 to 38. After DownEast took the
lead on the first day of matches (21.5 to 8.5) it was nearly impossible for DC
Metro to win. Having said that, the Sunday matches were extremely close (DC
lost 29.5 to 30.5) and not enough to even the score. Watch out DownEast…there
is always next year!
In the meantime, here is the breakdown of each day’s rounds. Saturday consisted of two matches per foursome—the first
round was a 9-hole, best ball match and the second round was a 9-hole alternate
shot match. On Sunday, rounds three and four consisted of two separate 9-hole
individual match play matches. DownEast
won the better ball round with a score of 10.5 to 4.5 and the alternate shot
round 11 to 4 providing them with the first day lead of 21.5 to 8.5 previously
mentioned. On Sunday the rounds were much closer. In fact, the first set of
individual match play matches was split evenly with both DownEast and DC Metro
earning 15 points apiece. The second round went to DownEast 15.5 to 14.5
resulting in the day two score of DownEast 30.5 and DC Metro 29.5. Once again, the overall and final score of the
two-day tournament was DownEast 52 and DC Metro 38.
Devon Hayes and
his partner, Crews Miller, won their
alternate shot match to earn one point on Saturday. Devon came back on Sunday and won his first match to earn another
point for the DC Tour. He halved his
second match Sunday, for another half point and a total of 2.5 points for the
weekend.
Imee Stackhouse won 2.5 points over the two days. After she and her husband Don Stackhouse earned 1 point in the
better ball round and half a point in the alternate shot round on Saturday, Imee won her second individual
competition on Sunday for another point.
Karl Yergey and
his partner Alan Gerstner earned one
point on Saturday when they beat their opponents in their alternate shot
event. On Sunday, Karl continued to rack up points for the DC Metro team when he won
his first individual match and halved his second for a total of 2.5 points over
the weekend.
On Saturday, the combination of Ryan Phillips and Dan
Delmore won their alternate shot match and one point for the DC Metro team.Ryan went on to earn another 1.5
points on Sunday when he won his first and halved his second individual match
tournaments.
The final D Flight team of Ray Wilson and James Briggs also won their alternate shot match and one point on Saturday. Ray went on to garner another 1.5
points in the individual match events on Sunday by winning one point in the
first match and a half point in the second for a total of 2.5 points over the
course of the weekend.
