The DC Metro’s season kicked off in grand style with the largest event since beginning the tour four years ago. The tournament included visiting players from the Chicago and Philadelphia Tours and illustrated one of the benefits of becoming a member of the Golfweek Amateur Tour!

Veteran DC Metro players dominated all five of the flights as they won first place and took home the trophies. However many newcomers and visiting players earned gift cards from Edwin Watts, our presenting sponsor, as part of the $2375 prize pool for the one-day event. 

Dick McDonough captured the top spot in the Championship flight with a score of 79 followed by Eric Fryatt in second place with an 81 and Andrew Neal (Philly Metro) in third place with an 82.

The Flight A trophy went to experienced tour member, Van Stemple, who’s 78 gave him a two stroke victory over Philly Metro player, George Reby. Close behind was Gordan Brixi, an eleven-year old guest player with a score of 81. Right on his heels were Joe Henson (82) and John Weitz (83).

B Flight players battled the course and each other all day. In the end, Nick Gerstner finished on top with an 81 just one stroke ahead of Bob Tallman. Jim Boyce (from the Philly Tour) took third place with a score of 85.

Will Baxter claimed the trophy for the C Flight with a score of 87 after chipping in for a birdie during an exciting playoff for first place with Steve Stewart and Brandon Ledyard.

Finally, Karl Yergey won the D Flight with a score of 89. Justin Carson (second place) and Philly member, Mike Murphy (third place) finished the event with scores of 94 and 95.
