Although
the rain dampened the spirits of some, Stonewall provided a great deal of
excitement for this weekend’s tournament with three of the five flights
requiring playoffs in order to bring home the trophy for first place! As of now
it looks like Mother Nature will cooperate with us for the next event
(Saturday, April 5th) at Lake Presidential. In the meantime, here is
the recap of Stonewall…
The
Championship Flight trophy went to Jack
Sheehan after he shot an 81 from the tips at this difficult course! Crews Miller’s first appearance for the
year earned him a second place finish with a score of 86 followed by last
week’s winner, Dick McDonough in
third with an 88.
The
first of three playoffs occurred in the A Flight. Mike Green competed with Gordan
Brixi after both players shot an 84 on the course. In the end, Mike beat
the eleven-year-old Gordon by one stroke on hole #1 in the playoff. Third place
went to last week’s winner, Van Stemplewith an 86 followed by a tie for fourth between Ted Winfield and John
Richards (87).
The
B Flight only had two people score under 90—first place winner, Thomas Hamilton (85) and second place
winner Dave Hutchinson (89). Third
place in the flight went to Bob Tallman,Doug Hamacek and Jim Boyce since all three carded a 91.
The next lowest score was 93 shot by both Steve
Ashman and Harry Sherman.
Last
week’s winner of the C Flight, Will
Baxter, found himself in a playoff situation once again this week. This
time Will lost in sudden death to Rob
Garland after both finished the round with a 96. Third place went to Don Stackhouse (97) followed by another
tie between Benjamin Harrison and Dan Pastorek who both shot a 98.
Finally,
the D Flight took to the course late in day for a three-person playoff between Karl Yergey, Shawn Doyle and Don Cherry.
After multiple holes, Karl Yergy earned the trophy for a second week in a row!
The difficulty of the course combined with the wet weather facing those at the
end of the round showed in the scores for the flight with the lowest score
being a 103. Fourth place went to newcomer David
Phillips with a score of 105.
