The drive to the Gauntlet was worth the trip for the DC
Metro tour members! Although the field was smaller than usual due to the
distance, the weather was beautiful, the course was challenging and the players
rose to the occasion. In fact, Grady Lovett (C Flight winner) was on fire this
tournament...Grady took first place, hands down with a score of 85 for the round
and an amazing back nine score of 38! Second place and third place C Flight winners,
Chris Stechna and Willie Winfree, shot a 94 and 95 respectively.
The other flights saw some familiar faces earning trophies
this tournament. Van Stemple took first place in the A Flight with an 87, three
strokes ahead of Allen Bailey. This was Van’s second win this season and
Allen’s best finish of the year. The B Flight also had a repeat winner, Billy
Lackey. Billy’s 88 just edged out both Cephas Franklin and Stephen Ashman since
they tied for second with 89. To round out the event, Karl Yergey claimed his
second trophy with a score of 97. Second place, and one stroke behind, was John
Moriarty followed in third by newcomer, Colin Chinn.
Now that we are getting further into the season, be
sure to check out the Points Standings page on the website to see where you
stand in qualifying for Nationals in Hilton Head, SC. We take the top ten
finishers in each flight and the best way to earn points is to participate in
events. Don’t forget you can play in another city if you are traveling or need
to make up for a missed event...talk to Tim or Dan to learn more about how the
points work or review the guidelines online in the Tour Manual. In the
meantime, the next tournament is at the Woodlands on May 28th and we
have a few spots left, hope to see you there!
