The DC Metro Golfweek Amateur Tour traveled to Silver
Spring, Maryland to compete at Hampshire Greens on Sunday, April 29th. This was the fourth sell-out of the
season and the largest field of the year.
Fifty-six golfers competed in five flights and in tough conditions in an
effort to be crowned Champion.
Dave Mellott
posted an 87 to win the Championship flight. New member Wayne Wang
took home top honors in the A flight with a tournament low 76. Brian
Poe and Jack Sheehan each shot 77
to tie for second.
The B flight had 13 members competing for the hardware. Joe Wang posted an 81 to take the
championship in his first tournament.
There was a three-way tie for second between Steve Ashman, Skip Bankston
and Steve D’Ambrosio as they all
shot 87.
The C flight continued to be the largest flight with
seventeen competitors. After finishing second and third in two previous
tournaments, Rafiq Rashid took first
place in this tournament with a score of 87. There was a tie for second place in this flight as well. Ryan Miller (first tournament) and Bill Noel each shot 90, while Chris Stechna finished third with a
score of 91.
The D flight also had a first time winner in Jeremy Willingham. Jeremy posted a 93 while second place
finisher Nate Host shot 95 to finish
second.
The next tournament is May 12th at the Gauntlet
Golf Club. The tees will be as
