Even the bad weather
couldn't dampen the spirit of DC Metro tour members. Given the number of April
showers the area has endured we must be destined to see lots of May flowers. In
the meantime, we hope this is the last tournament players will have to battle
the weather as well as the golf course.
By the end of hole #16
the bad weather made continued play impossible. Rex Close (new member) led the
A Flight and held the winning score of 77 followed closely with a score of 78
were three others (Allen Bailey, Mike Clemens and Keith Gibert). David LaPierre
and Mike Green were not too far behind with an 83 and 86 respectively. As the A
Flight waited for the rest of the players inside, members of Northwest were
kind enough to provide everyone with lots of towels as they dried off and
changed clothes!
Flight B stopped after
hole #15 with returning member, Jerry Abernathy winning the tournament by
posting a 69. Once again, the competition was close at hand with Foxx Monagan
trailing by one stroke and Vance Brown sitting at 72. Jerry proudly held his
trophy and smiled when someone pointed out this was Jerry's second win this
season! We will all have to wait and see what happens in two weeks when the B
Flight competes again, especially since there were no skins at Northwest and
the pot will carry over to Stonewall on May 1st!
The winner of Flight C,
Mark Kopasz, scored of 71 after 14 holes. This was Mark's second win this
season (he won the cPRIME Championship at Blue Ridge Shadows). Following close
behind the newcomer, with a score of 73 were two returning members carding 79,
Pepe Linares and Willie Winfree.
The final group in the
tournament to make it into the clubhouse was quite the crew...they even
considered playing until the end of the round...despite the weather! This group
held scores that ranged from Paula Harris' winning round of 53 to Rod Glitz
with a 63. Everyone is certainly looking forward to the next tournament at
Stonewall and hoping the weather will shine on all the participants!
