The DC/Metro season opened
on a beautiful St Patrick's Day at Hollow Creek Golf Club. The luck of the
Irish was certainly with some new members not only for winning their flights,
but for helping to make the cPrime Championship our first ever sellout.
New member Dave Mellot took
first in Championship flight with the low round of the day 79. He was followed
closely by Jerry Resh, who finished
one shot behind with a round of 80.
Top spot in A flight was
taken by new member Jack Sheehan finishing two shots ahead of Paul Wickham with
an 82. Jack's been a member of other amateur tours, but chose Golf Week for the
great courses available and reasonable cost .
Charles Mattocks continued
the new member trophy run shooting an 87 to take first in B flight. Stephen
Ashman followed with a strong second finishing with a round of 89. First time
tour member Charles Mattocks decided to play competitive golf to help push his
game to the next level and meet like minded competitors.
Returning member Cephas
Franklin battled tough greens to win C flight with an 88. Chris Crawford
finished one shot back with an 89. Second year member Cephas Franklin, likes
the added pressure of competition provided by Golf Weeks amateur tour.
Leroy Key dropped in 4
birdie putts to win D flight with an 89. Bruce Foote had 2 birdies of his own
to finish second with a round of 91.
It’s clear the Golf Week Amateur
Tour provides a fair place for golfers of all levels to feel the pressure of an
eight foot birdie putt. It’s a place to push your game, meet new people and
possibly look at course management in a whole new light when battling for a top
spot in your flight. Co- directors Tim Newman and Dan Pastorek have done an
amazing job providing the DC/Metro area with top quality courses and a well
organized professional atmosphere to develop your golf game and play against
some like minded golfers.
