Palmetto Dunes (Jones) Course
The Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes Resort hosted the opening event for the Hilton Head Division of the EGolf Amateur Tour on Saturday January 5, 2008.
The course was in fantastic condition, with the greens rolling very smooth. The greens were not overly fast but were tough to hit in regulation. The cool 60-Degree plus air prevented the ball from carrying very far and this course has its share of long holes. The Palmetto Dunes staff did a great job hosting the first event of 2008. The tour players had a great time and some even posted good scores. The first event is always tough with most players trying to shed the winter rust. Everyone seemed excited about the new season, new sponsorship, and the new gift cards. 2008 will be a breakout year for the re-vamped EGolf Amateur Tour.
Gerry Pascale shot a 76 to take the Championship Flight honors with Jamie Manning right behind at 77. Howard Tomlinson and Ed Claytor both scored 78’s to tie for third. Ed won the scorecard play-off.
In the “A†Flight, Mark Harrison scored a 76 to finish just ahead of Craig Case who shot 77. Bob Sharp placed third with a 79.
Jim Manning took “B†Flight honors with a solid 78. Jack Willis placed second with an 81 and John Barr came in third with an 86.
“C†Flight honors went to John Kolcum with an 86 over Kent Barker’s 87. Jason Brisini and Mark Morris tied for third with a pair of 88’s. Jason won the scorecard play-off. John is maintaining the strong play from last year; experience is a plus.
Tommy Bryant got his season started on a high note with a 98 to win the “D†Flight. Second and Third place winners were Glen Cunningham and Cowboy with scores of 100 and 102.
