The Hilton Head-Savannah Tour held its sixth tournament of the year at the Arthur Hills course inside Palmetto Hall Plantation this past Saturday. A total of 42 golfers took to the course to battle for the ever important points. As we approach the midway point of the season, the season long point’s races gets tighter and tighter with every tournament. The course was in great shape and the weather was perfect.
The Championship flight saw two players making their 2013 Golfweek Amateur Tour debut. Dustin Nemenz and Tyler Grizzle both joined the tour this past week and both took on the very difficult Hills course from the tips, no easy task. When it was all said and done it wasTyler taking home the trophy and the 450 points for first place, placing him right in the hunt for that overall Championship Flight season long title.
The A flight saw a nice group of 10 players competing for the title today. Playing from the blue tees, one player was able to break into the 70’s. Mitchell Hammock shot a 79 to claim a 3-stroke victory over Terry Lennox and Michael Dion who shot 82’s for their round. Terry won second place in a scorecard playoff. Congrats on yet another win Mitchell!
The B had the biggest flight of the day with 15 golfers competing for all the points. Keith Weaver shot his season low 81 by going 37-44 on the day to claim a 1-stroke victory over newcomer TJ Leonard who dunked one into the water on 18 to shoot an 82. Scott Ammons rounds out the top three and moves into first place in the season long points race.
The C flight saw 9 players compete today, all in a quest to catch Armando Oropeza for the points title. Noel Coolican shot an 87 on the day to claim a 2-stroke victory. This is Noel’s first win of the season and moves him into second place, just 130 points behind Armando. This is shaping up to be a tight race. John Donat claims second place in the tournament with a solid 89 on the day. Jason Carlson rounds out the top three with a 90.
The six players in the D flight were all set on catching Paul McGee for that season long points race. Playing in his second tournament of the year, William Henry fired a great round of 86 to claim his second victory of the season and move even closer to Paul. Coming in second was Jimmy Bryson. The second place finish moves Jimmy to second place in the points race, just 80 points behind Paul. Rounding out the top three was Paul McGee.
