The Course That Fought Back.
The Legends at Parris Island was the host course for the most recent event for the Golfweek Amateur Tour. The Hilton Head-Savannah Tour and the Charleston Tours combined together to send a group of 34 players to one of the best military courses in the country. The weather cooperated for the golfers as the sun was shining all day long and the heat was intense. The greens were running fast and had a lot of undulation in them, making putting a premium today.
The A flight saw 10 players take to the course to compete with one another today. In the end it was a clean sweep by the Charleston tour as Dan Wanner and Tony Capehart claim the top two spots. Wanner used three birdies and steady play to card a 78 on the day. Tony was as consistent as you could be and carded an 80 to claim second place. Coming in third was Mark Ducker (81), also from the Charleston tour.
The B flight also saw 10 players compete today. This time it was a clean sweep by the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour. Joe McDonie claimed his first tour win of the year by carding an 84 on the day. Coming in second was Doug Hudock (86). Rounding out the top three was Roger Clark (86), from the Hilton Head-Savannah Tour.
The C flight saw a group of 7 golfers take to the course in competition. It was a very close battle for the top two spots today. In the end it was Gerard Mahieu (86) claiming a one stroke victory over Erik Eadie (87). Rounding out the top three was Zak Thrasher (90).
The D flight consisted of 8 golfers today. When all the players were done playing it was a runaway win for Cowboy of the Charleston Tour. Cowboy put together a solid round of 92 to claim a four shot win over John Wilson (96). Rounding out the top three was Dennis Harris (98).
In the end the tours split the bragging rights with each tour winning two flights. All in all the players all had a good time on the course. We hope to see everyone at our next events. The Hilton Head-Savannah Tour will be playing Hampton Hall on the 5th while the Charleston Tour will be playing Penny Branch on the 11th.
