The Brookside
Country Club in Pottstown, PA hosted the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro)
on Saturday August 5th, 2017. Forty-four tour members in five flights
competed on a perfect summer afternoon on the Par 72 course. Brookside Country Club dates back to 1916; the
course was re-designed by William and David Gordon in the 1950’s. It features numerous small wetlands, both
short and long holes, and many elevation changes.
In the Championship Flight, Steve Barry (79, 40-39) won a close match against
Gary Greenberg (82, 39-43). CHAMP Flight
played Blue Tees from “the tips” at 6,702 yards.
The A Flight victory went to Michael Dupree (84, 41-43) by one-stroke over Josh
Numbers (85, 42-43). Carl Handwerk (86,
45-41) was another stroke back in 3rd place. A Flight also played Blue Tees from “the tips”
at 6,702 yards.
The B Flight winner was veteran Kevin Cockerham (83, 40-43) by two-strokes over
the trio of Rich Mariner (85, 47-38), Pete Conti (85, 44-41) and Greg Ricker
(85, 44-41). On a match-of-cards, Mariner’s great back-nine score propelled him
into 2nd place and Conti took 3rd. B Flight played WHITE Tees at 6,318 yards.
The C Flight
champion was Ted Mazurek with a fine round of 80 (41-39). He bested Art Laney (83, 39-44) by
three-strokes and Brian Ganley (85, 41-44) by five-strokes. The C Flight played modified GREEN Tees at 6,128
yards.
In the D Flight, Rob Kerr (93, 47-46) took his first title of the season with a
two-stroke victory over Brandon Nickel (95, 51-44). D Flight also played modified GREEN Tees at
6,128 yards.
Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to play such a well-maintained private golf
course. Special thanks to PGA Head Golf Professional Ryan Breidegam and his
staff at Brookside Country Club.
Our next tournament is being held at the private French Creek Golf Club in Elverson,
PA on Saturday August 19, 2017. This is a Gil Hanse design. Hope to see you
there!
