Broad Run Golfers Club in West Chester, PA hosted
the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro) on Saturday May 14th, 2016. Forty-eight
tour players in five flights competed on a changeable weather day, which
included rain showers and bright sunshine. Broad Run Golfers Club is a Rees Jones design which opened for
play (as Tattersall) in 2000. Built on an expansive 372 acres, this beautiful
golf course blends in naturally with the rugged terrain of the Pennsylvania
countryside. Broad Run has a wide variety of challenging holes; some play along
valley floors or over ridge tops and others over open rolling land or through heavily wooded areas.
In the CHAMP Flight, new member Matthew
Perrino (83, 39-44) claimed his first CHAMP Flight title on tour in a playoff
over Gary Greenberg (83, 40-43). Perrino won with a par on the first playoff hole.
Andrew Jaskel (85, 46-39) was three-shots back in 3rd place. The
CHAMP Flight played from 6,751 yards.
The
A Flight victory went to George
Steinmetz (78, 40-38), in a playoff over Stephen Barry (78, 39-39). Steinmetz won with a par on the first
playoff hole. This was Steinmetz first
victory on tour. Tony White (80, 38-42) was two-strokes back in 3rd
place. The A Flight played from 6,401 yards.
In the B Flight, veteran Ed Gilbert
(84, 38-46) held off new member Drew Pannell (84, 42-42) in a one-hole playoff.
Gilbert made a par in the playoff to claim the title. Kevin Martyn (85, 43-42)
was one-stroke back in 3rd place. The B Flight also played from
6,401 yards.
The C Flight champion was
John Son (91, 48-43) in a three-way playoff over Brian Ganley (91, 45-46) and
Paul Evak (91, 46-45). Son and Ganley made a Par 3 on the first playoff hole
and moved on. Son won when Ganley couldn’t get up-and-down for par on the next
hole. Dave Neder (92, 44-48) was one-shot out of the playoff in 4th
place. C Flight played from 6,083 yards.
In
the D Flight, new member Nick Smith (91, 44-47) claimed a four-stroke victory
over Ken Hurley (95, 48-47). With the victory, Smith received a promotion to
the C Flight for his next tournament on tour. D Flight also played from 6,083
yards.
The event raised $85.00 for the GOLFWEEK
Amateur Tour’s charity partner, Stand Up 2 Cancer. Special
thanks to Head Golf Professional Brady Foore and his staff at Broad Run Golfers
Club for their help with the golf tournament. The golf course was in excellent
condition, a fun test of golf!
