Galloway National Golf Club hosted the GOLFWEEK Amateur
Tour on Saturday September 10, 2016. World
renowned architect Tom Fazio crafted Galloway National’s 7000+ yards out of a
200 acre tract of heavily wooded, gently sloping bayside property. The course
features natural contour changes, tees and greens with breathtaking views, and
challenging hazards as it winds through pine forest, sand and water on the bay
side overlooking Atlantic City, N.J.
In the Championship Flight, Don Miller (Atlanta) (74,
35-39) took the title by three-strokes over Matthew Perrino (77, 39-38) and
Chris Esbenshade (77, 35-42). Perrino took 2nd place points on a
match-of-cards. The CHAMP Flight played Gold & Blue tees from 6,926 yards.
The A Flight winner was Michael Dupree (83, 38-44) in a
playoff over Joe Arnold, Sr. (82, 41-41). Dupree won with a Par 4 on the first
playoff hole. Walter Schmitz (83, 38-45) was another stroke back in 3rd
place. The A Flight played Blue & Gold tees from 6,705 yards.
In the B Flight, Lou Parducci (82, 42-40) became a
first-time winner on the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour with a one-stroke victory over
Jim Boyce (83, 40-43). John Freymuller (84, 43-41) was another stroke-back in 3rd
place. The B Flight played Blue & White Tees from 6,552 yards.
The C Flight winner was Joe Holzapfel (Metro NY) (93,
44-49) by one-stroke over Trevor Lawrence (Metro NY) (96, 44-52). Dave Neder
(97, 48-49) was another stroke back in 3rd place. The C Flight
played White & Blue Tees from 6,151 yards.
In the D Flight, Tour Director Jeff Brodsky (91, 39-52)
hung on for a two-stroke victory over Sean Matthews (93, 48-45). George Wajda
(95, 47-48) took 3rd place. The D Flight played White tees from
6,110 yards.
Galloway National Golf Club’s Director Of Golf Jason Lamp
and his staff made certain that their championship golf course was in
immaculate condition for our event. Sixty members and guests competed under
sunny skies with breezy conditions and the temperature in the low 80’s (perfect
golf weather!). The course played extremely difficult, with the combination of
fast greens and deep bunkers proving to be a tremendous challenge for the
field.
Our next
tournament is the 2016 Local Finals at Philmont Country Club (North). This
double-points tournament will determine the 2015 Flight Champions as well as
the Philly Metro team for the upcoming Metro Cup matches vs. Metro NY on
Saturday October 1st.
