Cranbury Golf Club in West Windsor, NJ hosted the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro & Metro NY) on Saturday August 22nd, 2015. A last-minute substitute location due to poor course conditions at the original host venue, Cranbury Golf Club provided the group with a short yet challenging course for this tournament. Cranbury Golf Club dates from 1964 and was designed by local architect Garrett Renn. The course features small well-bunkered greens, narrow tree lined fairways and water hazards on several holes. The unusual Par 71 routing includes six Par 3 holes and five Par 5 holes. The weather was pleasant which made for a great day of tournament golf!
In the Championship Flight, Metro NY member Michael Goldfarb (73, 36-37) eeked-out a one-stroke victory over Philly Metro member Ethan Means (74, 38-36). Both players had three birdies during their round. Kyle Mazza (77, 41-36), playing his final event as a member of the Philly Metro tour, was another three strokes back in 3rd place. CHAMP Flight played from the BLUE Tees.
The A Flight victory went to Metro NY member Jason Warner (78, 38-40). Philly Metro member Michael Dupree (80, 42-38) and Metro NY member Tri Tran (80, 39-41) were two-strokes back. Dupree took 2nd place on a match-of-cards. A Flight played from the BLUE Tees.
In the B Flight, Philly Metro member Carl Handwerk (78, 36-42) claimed his first victory on the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour with a two-stroke victory over Metro NY Director Tom Steinmann (80, 37-43). Philly Metro member Keith Johnson (82, 41-41) was another two-strokes back in 3rd place. B Flight also played from the BLUE Tees.
The C Flight victory went to Philly Metro member Kirk Forchetti (80, 40-40. Kirk also claimed his first victory on the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour. Metro NY member Larry Calinda (82, 41-41) was two-strokes back in 2nd place. Philly Metro member Mike Galletta (86, 42-44) was another four-strokes back in 3rd place. C Flight played from the WHITE Tees.
The D Flight VICTORY went to Metro NY member Robert Viciconte (86, 45-41) who secured a seven-stroke victory over Philly Metro member Sean Matthews (93, 44-49). Metro NY member James Krenn (95, 51-44) was another two-strokes back in 3rd place. D Flight also played from the WHITE Tees.
The event raised $150.00 for the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour’s charity partner, Stand Up 2 Cancer. Special thanks to the Cranbury Golf Club GM Colleen Suozzo and her staff for their assistance in making this tournament possible on such short notice.
The tour moves on to Manufacturers Golf & Country Club in Ft. Washington, PA, for a tournament on Monday August 31st, 2015. This challenging course features rolling terrain and many great holes. This will be our second time returning to this great private country club – hope to see you!
