The annual post-season Metro Cup challenge match between the Metro New York Tour and the Philly Metro Tour was held on Saturday October 24th, 2015 at the Royce Brook Golf Club (East) in . The top 20 available players from each tour (4 each from the 5 flights) matched up against each other in 3 different formats: Better-Ball Of Partners (9 holes), Modified Alternate Shot (9 holes), and Head-To-Head Singles (9 holes). It was a partly sunny and brisk autumn day for golf, as players competed in the spirited and hard-fought competition between the two tours.
After a 1-hour frost delay, Metro New York opened strong in the Better-Ball matches, leading 7 to 3 after the first 9 holes of play. In Modified Alternate Shot, Metro New York overwhelmed Philly Metro, at one point winning 7 straight matches, to storm to a commanding 15 to 5 lead after 18 holes were played.
Afternoon Singles play began with Philly Metro winning 3 of the 4 matches in CHAMP Flight. In the A Flight, the two teams split the 4 matches, taking 2 points each. The B Flight Singles were dominated by Metro New York, who took 3 of the 4 matches, and clinched the Metro Cup at the conclusion of their matches. In the C Flight, Metro New York took 3 of the 4 matches. The D Flight matches were split between the two teams. Metro New York was the winner in a runaway by 26 points to 14 points.
In overall score (counting team and individual play a total of 12 points per flight were available), Metro New York players won 7 points in CHAMP Flight, 10 points in A Flight, 8 points in B Flight, 9 points in C Flight and 7 points in D Flight, collectively winning in every flight!
Special mention goes to Metro New York team members John Sheehan (A), Brian Gallahue (A), James DeSantis (C), and Larry Calinda (C), who were undefeated in team and individual play. A fabulous time was had by all on a very long day on the golf course.
