Fountain
Green Golf Course
Fort Dix, NJ
May 28, 2016
Fountain Green Golf Course at Fort Dix, NJ was the venue for
the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro & Metro NY) tournament on May 28,
2016. The tournament, held at the military base on Memorial Day weekend, was a
fundraiser for Operation First Response. Fifty-four tour members in five
flights (and six guests) competed for trophies on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
The golf course was in excellent condition with fast greens and challenging pin
placements.
In the Championship Flight, Albie Sanguiliano (74, 34-40) returned
to the winner’s circle with a stellar round that included two birdies. He was a
five-stroke winner over Gary Greenberg (79, 39-40), Alex Hargaden (79, 42-37),
and Ryan Nolan (Tidewater) (79, 39-40).
In the A Flight, Metro NY Tour member John Cardillo, Jr.
(84, 43-41) eaked-out a one-stroke victory over three other members. Bob Hobson
(85, 45-40), John Numbers (85, 43-42), and Herb Rubenstein (Metro NY) (85,
43-42 were all one-stroke behind Cardillo. Hobson took 2nd place on
a match-of-cards and Numbers took 3rd place.
The B Flight champion was first-time winner Jonathan Sun
(84, 42-42) who’s steady round was good enough for a two-stroke margin over Sal
Ditta (Metro NY) (86, 44-42). Sun’s round included 3 birdies. Ron Pace (87,
45-42) was another stroke back in 3rd place.
In the C Flight, Metro NY members Larry Calinda (89, 43-46)
and Cyril Thompson (89, 46-43) went to a one-hole playoff to decide a winner.
In the playoff, Calinda secured victory with a bogey on the long Par 3 16th
hole. Three players were tied for 3rd place; Zach Davis (91, 46-45),
Kurt Lewandowski (91, 42-49) and John Driscoll (Metro NY) (91, 48-43). Driscoll
took 3rd place on a match-of-cards.
The D Flight champion was new member Ken Hurley (92, 46-46)
with a steady round. He was a four-stroke winner over Sean Matthews (96,
49-47). Tom Cavanagh (Metro NY) (97, 55-42) was another stroke back in 3rd
place.
Thanks to Director Of Golf John Scott for working with us to obtain access to
the military base for this special tournament. The tournament raised over $2,300.00 for Operation
First Response, which assists families of our military veterans with their daily
needs. Thank you so much to everyone who participated for your kindness and generosity.
The
GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro) moves on to The Pocono Mountain area for a
two-day Tour Major event on Saturday June 11th and Sunday June 12th,
2016. We will play the Jack Nicklaus designed Great Bear Golf Club in East
Stroudsburg on Day One and the fun and challenging Mount Airy Golf Club in
Mount Pocono on Day Two. Hope to see you there!
