Forsgate Country Club, located in Monroe Twp., New Jersey, hosted the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro) Local Finals on Saturday September 19, 2015. Forty-eight tour players in five flights competed on a sunny and breezy early autumn afternoon. The Palmer Course at Forsgate opened in 1961. Originally designed by Hal Purdy, The Arnold Palmer Group was hired to redesign the course in 1995. Several water hazards were added, fairways narrowed, and some new holes were built. Although not overly long, trouble awaits at almost every turn on the Palmer Course. Five Flight Championships were “up for grabs” as a result of the day’s golf. Soft greens provided excellent scoring opportunities for the competitors; a total of 42 “birdies” and 1 “eagle” were recorded by the participants during the event on the Par 72 course.
In the Championship Flight, Albie Sanguiliano (79, 41-38) secured a two-stroke victory over Alex Hargaden (81, 37-44). Congratulations to Albie, who confirmed his 2015 Flight Championship with the victory. Albie’s round included three birdies on the back-nine. Doug Hilgenberg scored an “eagle” 3 on the Par 5 15th. The CHAMP Flight played BLACK Tees from 6,625 yards.
The A Flight victory went to Michael Dupree (78, 40-38) by two-strokes over Metro NY member Joe Arnold (80, 43-37). Michael’s round included two birdies. Metro NY member John Sheehan (81, 39-42) was another stroke back. Congratulations to Michael, who confirmed his 2015 Flight Championship with the victory. The A Flight played BLUE Tees from 6,532 yards.
In the B Flight, a 2-hole playoff between Kevin Martyn (82, 40-42) and Ed Gilbert (82, 40-42) determined the winner. As dusk fell, Martyn’s bogey on the Par 3 2nd hole was enough to win his first tournament of the season. Dave Taylor (84, 43-41) and Metro NY member Justin Epstein (84, 42-42) were both two-strokes back; Taylor took 3rd place on a match-of-cards. Congratulations to the 2015 Flight Champion, Jim Boyce. The B Flight also played BLUE Tees from 6,532 yards.
The C Flight champion was Rich Paskman (86, 43-43) by four-strokes over Dave Neder (90, 41-49). This was Paskman’s first victory of the season. Mike Galletta (91, 45-46) was another stroke back in 3rd place. Congratulations to Dave Neder, who secured the 2015 Flight Championship. The C Flight played WHITE Tees from 6,207 yards.
In the D Flight, Fred Hering (95, 44-51) took the title by one-stroke over Metro NY member James Krenn (96, 44-52). This was Hering’s first victory of the season. Congratulations to the 2015 Flight Champion, Sean Matthews. The D Flight also played WHITE Tees from 6,207 yards.
Special thanks to Director Of Golf Carolyn Mckenzie-Andrews and her staff at Forsgate for their help with the tournament. It was a fantastic afternoon at a great private country club, and a great way to end the 2015 season.
