The Ridge At Back Brook in Ringoes, NJ was the venue for the
2016 season-opening tournament of the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro). Tour members from the Philly Metro and Metro
New York (MNY) Tours competed on the Tom Fazio designed tournament course at
this exclusive private club for trophies in 5 flights.
Alex Hargaden (76,
38-38) took home the trophy in the Championship Flight. Alex’s steady round included 2 birdies and
only 1 score higher than bogey. Michael
Goldfarb (MNY) took 2nd place with a 78 (38-40). New member Andrew Jaskel (79,
41-38) and returning members Gary Greenberg (79, 40-39) and Wes Samons (MNY)
(79, 42-37) were in a tie for 3rd place. Samons took 3rdin a match-of-cards. CHAMP Flight played
GOLD Tees at 7,023 yards.
In the A Flight, Tony White (78, 39-39) and Scot Vanisko
(MNY) (78, 40-38) finish regulation play tied for the flight victory. In the
playoff, both players bogeyed the 1st hole and made par on the 2ndand 3rd holes. White secured
the victory on the 4th playoff hole when Vanisko couldn’t get
up-and-down from a fairway bunker. Michael Dupree (79, 38-41) was one stroke out of the playoff in 3rdplace. A Flight played BLUE Tees at
6,604 yards.
The B Flight tournament was a heated competition decided in a 3-way
playoff. Steve Winnick (81, 43-38),
Walter Schmitz (MNY) (81, 41-40), and Chris Moore (81, 41-40) were tied for the
lead after regulation play. In the
playoff, Moore made a par on the 1st hole to secure the victory when
the other 2 competitors made bogey. Moore’s round included 2 birdies and an
eagle on the Par 5 14th hole. Jay Barnica (84, 41-43) was in 4th place. B Flight Played RED
Tees at 6,284 yards.
In the C Flight, new member Tim Kelly was the
runaway winner. Kelly’s round included 2
birdies and an eagle on the Par 5 11th hole. Kelly earned a
“battlefield promotion” to the B Flight for his next tournament. Richard Paskman (88, 39-49) took home the 2ndplace prize. John Son (90, 47-43) and
Steve McDonald (MNY) (90, 43-47) were tied for 3rd; Son took the
prize on a match-of-cards. C Flight
played SILVER Tees from 6,117 yards.
The D Flight champion was veteran John Stevens (92, 44-48)
by one-stroke over defending Flight Champion Sean Matthews (93, 48-45). John’s
round included a birdie on the Par 3 8th hole. Kermit Bowen (95,
46-49) took the 3rd place prize. D Flight played SILVER Tees from 6,117 yards.
Head Golf Professional Travis Deibert and his staff made
certain that their championship golf course was in immaculate condition for our
event. This was the 3rd year our tour has opened the season at The
Ridge At Back Brook. It was a great
Opening Day on a very challenging golf course.
