Atlantic City Country Club Northfield, NJ
Philly Metro & Metro NY Joint-Event
April 28, 2012
Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield, NJ was the venue for the opening event of the season on Saturday April 28th, 2012. Players from both Metro NY and Philly Metro tours competed on the classic layout that dates from 1897 for trophies in 5 flights. The cloudy and cool weather made for a difficult day for the sold-out field of 60 players. Director Of Golf Ron Ralston and his staff made certain that their championship golf course was in immaculate condition for our event.
Doug Hilgenberg took home the trophy in the Championship Flight. Doug shot a steady round of 84 (42-42) from ‘the tips’ of the Par 70 6, 577 yard course. His nearest competitor Gary Greenberg was one shot back with an 85. This was Doug’s first title on the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour.
Dave DiValentino was the winner in the A Flight by two strokes over six other players. Dave’s round of 86 (40-46) included six pars. Dave is now a multiple winner on tour. Jake Charles finished 2nd with a round of 88, on a match of cards. Bob Hobson, also at 88, finished third. A special nod to Andrew Castrichini for his spectacular ‘Eagle’ 2 on the Par Four 3rd hole; Andrew holed out from 170 yards with a fairway wood!
John Shimony won the B Flight going away with a five stroke victory over returning Flight Champion Kevin Cockerham. John’s fine round of 80 (40-40) included 10 pars. The B Flight played from 6,175 yards. A further shot back was Derek Stevenson of the Metro NY tour with a round of 86.
The C Flight trophy went to Kyle Mazza, now a multiple winner on tour, with a round of great round of 86 (43-43). Kyle’s round included a birdie on the Par Five 13thhole. Ignacio Casares of the Metro NY tour was 1 stroke higher, taking 2nd place with a round of 87. Stephen Mumford, on the strength of an Eagle ‘3’ on the Par Five 10th hole, finished six shots further back, and took 3rd place on a match of cards.
The D Flight champion was David Neder, with a round of 89, that included a birdie on the Par Four 13th hole. The D Flight played from 5,556 yards. Dave is now a multiple winner on tour. John Stevens was three strokes back with a 92.
Atlantic City CC’s clubhouse is a great place to relax after golf and enjoy the excellent cuisine and cold beverages. The event raised $110.00 for the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour’s charity partner, Stand Up 2 Cancer
