The Brookside Country Club in Pottstown, PA hosted the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro) on Saturday August 8th, 2015. Forty-four tour members in five flights competed on a perfect summer afternoon on the Par 72 course. Brookside Country Club dates back to 1916 when a nine-hole course opened on property next to the Hill School. The course was re-designed by William and David Gordon in the 1950’s as an eighteen-hole layout. It features numerous small wetlands, many elevation changes, and some challenging hole designs. We enjoyed a sunny pleasant afternoon on a golf course was in excellent condition throughout.
In the Championship Flight, Gary Greenberg (74, 35-39) took the title by four-strokes over DC Metro Tour member Crews Miller (79, 41-38). Gary’s round of 74 was the low round of the day. CHAMP Flight played Blue Tees from “the tips” at 6,748 yards.
The A Flight victory went to Michael Dupree (78, 39-39) by one-stroke over Metro NY member John Sheehan (79, 39-40). This was Michael’s 2nd victory on tour this season, his 1st of the season on the Philly Metro Tour. Justin O’Neal (80, 38-42) was another stroke back in 3rd place. A Flight also played Blue Tees from “the tips” at 6,748 yards.
The B Flight winner, Steve Mumford (79, 37-42) seized the title in a 3-way playoff over Jon DeMinico (79, 39-40) and Ron Pace (79, 40-39). Mumford won with a Par 4 on the first playoff hole. Pace took 2nd place on a match-of-cards. B Flight played WHITE Tees at 6,328 yards.
The C Flight champion was Kurt Lewandowski, with a fine round of 84 (44-40). This was Kurt’s first victory on the Philly Metro Tour. He bested Richard Paskman (87, 45-42) and Zach Davis (87, 42-45) by three-strokes. Paskman took 2nd place on a match-of-cards. The C Flight also played WHITE Tees at 6,328 yards.
In the D Flight, Philly Metro Director Jeff A. Brodsky (94, 48-46) took his 2nd title of the season with a one-stroke victory over Brett Johnson (95, 52-43), John Stevens (95, 49-46) and Sean Matthews (95, 49-46). D Flight also played WHITE Tees at 6,328 yards.
The event raised $85.00 for the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour’s charity partner, Stand Up 2 Cancer. We proudly welcomed Crews Miller (CHAMP) from the DC Metro Tour, John Sheehan (A) from the Metro NY Tour and Larry Schofield (D) from the Columbus Tour to the tournament. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to play such a well-maintained private golf course. Special thanks to PGA Head Golf Professional Ryan Breidegam and his staff at Brookside Country Club for hosting us.
Our next event is a joint-tour tournament with Metro NY at the Hopewell Valley Golf Club in Hopewell, NJ on Saturday August 22, 2015. Hope to see you there!
