The GOLFWEEK
Amateur Tour (Philly Metro) opened the 2017 season at the challenging Ridge At
Back Brook in Ringoes, NJ on Saturday April 29th. 80 tour members competed on the Tom Fazio
designed tournament course at this exclusive private club for trophies in 5
flights. We enjoyed a warm sunny and breezy afternoon with temperatures
climbing near 80 degrees. The course proved to be a tremendous challenge for
the sold-out field. Head Golf Professional Travis Deibert and his staff made
certain that the golf course was in immaculate condition for our event.
Gary Greenberg (82, 40-42) took home the trophy in the Championship Flight. Gary was two strokes better than Jules
Quinones (40-44, 84) and four strokes better than Michael Goldfarb (40-46, 86)
of the Metro NY tour. All 3 players were
tied after the front-nine holes. The CHAMP flight played the “tips” at 7,061
yards.
Michael
Lubieski (82, 41-41) was the winner in a close A Flight contest, posting a one-stroke
victory over Stephen Barry (83, 39-44). Mark Monkhouse (84, 43-41) took 3rd
place on a match-of-cards with Carl Handwerk (84, 42-42). The A Flight played
BLUE Tees at 6,654 yards.
The B Flight tournament was won by new member Richard Mariner (83, 41-42).
Mariner birdied the Par 5 18th hole to post a one-stroke victory
over Ron Pace (84, 40-44). Ed Gilbert (85, 45-40) took 3rd place on
a match-of-cards with Frank Giordano (85, 40-45). The B Flight played GOLD Tees
at 6,319 yards.
The C Flight winner was veteran Dave Neder, who posted an impressive 87
(42-45), for a four-stroke victory over new member Walter Luft (91, 44-47).
Scott Siravo (93, 46-47) was another two-strokes back in 3rd place.
The C Flight played GOLD/SILVER Combo Tees at 6,145 yards.
New member Brandon Nickel (96, 49-47) won the D Flight by five-strokes over
last year’s D Flight winner Sean Matthews (101, 51-50). New member Rob Kerr
(102, 51-51) took 3rd place. The D Flight played SILVER Tees at 6,003 yards.
Our next tournament is on Saturday May 13th at the exciting White
Clay Creek Country Club located inside Delaware Park in Wilmington, DE. This
Arthur Hills design from 2005 challenges golfers on every hole, with the creek
constantly in play on both drives and approach shots.
