Hopewell Valley Golf Club - A Hidden Gem In N.J. Horse Country
Hopewell Valley Golf Club Hopewell, NJ 07-12-14
Hopewell
Valley Golf Club in Hopewell, NJ hosted the GOLFWEEK Amateur Tour (Philly Metro)on Saturday July 12th, 2014. Hopewell Valley, which dates from 1927,
was designed by a Scottish golf professional, Thomas Winton. Built in horse
farm country of western New Jersey, the course features small well-bunkered
greens, narrow fairways and water hazards on several holes. The weather was
sunny and breezy which made for a great day of tournament golf!
In the Championship
Flight, Albie Sanguiliano secured his second consecutive victory of the 2014
season with a round of five-over par 77 (39-38). Albie’s round included four
birdies. Albie won by three strokes over Jules Quinones (80, 41-39) and by four
over new member Tony Sentore (81, 41-40). Sentore made a great eagle “3” on the
Par 5 7th hole during his round.
The
A Flight victory went to Bob
Hobson, who shot a fantastic round of 77 (38-39) for his first-ever GOLFWEEK
Amateur Tour title. Hobson’s round included two birdies. Congratulations,
Bob! New member Justin O’Neal (78,
37-41) was one-stroke back. O’Neal also made an “eagle” 3 on the Par 5 7th
hole.
In the B Flight, Joe Foley took his
first title of the season with a great round of 81 (40-41) to win by two strokes over Joe Volpe (83, 40-43). Another two strokes back in 3rd
place was the defending B Flight Champion, Jim Boyce, who finished at 85
(42-43).
The C Flight victory
went to Chris Moore (85, 39-46), for his first title of the season. Chris
scorched the front-nine in 3-over par 39, including two birdies, and then held
on for the victory. Zach Davis (88, 44-44) was three strokes back in 2nd
place.
The
D Flight VICTORY went to new member Charles Peoples (101, 51-50), who battled
three other members in a close contest.
The event raised $100.00 for the GOLFWEEK
Amateur Tour’s charity partner, Stand Up 2 Cancer. Special
thanks to Head Golf Professional P.J. Ulanich and his staff at for treating our
players as “members for the day” – it was a truly memorable golf experience.
The
tour moves on to Radley Run Country Club, near Chadds Ford, PA, for a tournament on Saturday July 26th,
2014. This challenging course features rolling terrain and numerous water hazards.
This will be our third year returning to this great private country club – hope
to see you there!
