White Clay
Creek Country Club at Delaware Park was the venue for the (rescheduled) third
tournament of the season on Saturday June 10th, 2017. Fifty-six Tour members and guests competed on
the very challenging course for trophies in 5 flights. White Clay Creek, designed by Arthur Hills and
opened in 2005, is an unusual layout that encircles the entire property, never
returning to the clubhouse until the 18th hole. The creek and numerous water hazards are in
play on every hole.
In the Championship Flight, Alex
Hargaden (79, 35-44) was the winner by seven-strokes over Matthew Perrino (86,
44-42). John Foley (89, 45-44) was
another three-strokes back in 3rd place. The CHAMP Flight played a GOLD/BLACK Combo Tee
at 6,788 yards.
The A Flight winner was Charlotte Tour Director Phil VanGeersdaelen (81,
40-41), who claimed a one-stroke victory over Michael Dupree (82, 41-41) and
new member Fred Backhus (82, 41-41). Dupree
took 2nd place on a scorecard playoff (Back 6). The A Flight played BLACK Tees at 6,467 yards.
Lou Parducci (84, 45-39) won the B Flight by three-strokes over Brian Lynch
(88, 45-43). Richard Mariner (89, 44-45)
was another stroke behind in 3rd place. The B Flight played a
BLACK/WHITE Combo Tee at 6,217 yards.
The C Flight
went to a playoff between new members Joe Schulle (90, 45-45) and Art Laney
(90, 43-47). Schulle won the contest on the first extra hole when Laney’s
approach found the hazard. Robert
Stillman (94, 46-48) was four-strokes back in 3rd place. The C Flight played a WHITE/GREEN Combo Tee
at 6,107 yards.
The D Flight winner was Adam Hansen (97, 53-44) who claimed his first victory
on tour by three-strokes over Sean Matthews (100, 50-50). Rob Kerr (101, 51-50) was another stroke back
in 3rd place. The D Flight
also played a WHITE/GREEN Combo Tee at 6,107 yards.
We would like to thank Director of Golf Ryan Kidwell for allowing us to
re-schedule this tournament. His staff did
an excellent job preparing the golf course for us. The Rail Bar & Grille at White Clay Creek
is a great place to relax after golf.
Our next tournament takes us to The Poconos for our 2017 Two-Day Tour Major. On Saturday June 24th we play an
afternoon round at Great Bear Golf Club near East Stroudsburg, PA followed by a
morning round at nearby Shawnee Country Club (White to Red) in Shawnee On
Delaware, PA. You must be registered by
June 16th to play in this event.
